Plaster walls and ceilings
Plastering is one of the steps in renovation an apartment that involves smoothing out the walls and ceiling before painting or wallpapering them. A well-done plastering job results in a flat surface that hides irregularities and imperfections, ultimately giving the walls and ceiling a perfect appearance.
Here is the basic technique for plastering during apartment renovation:
- Preparation work: before starting the plastering, the surface of the walls and ceiling must be cleaned of dust and dirt, and also inspected for cracks and other defects.
- Application of the first layer of plaster: the first layer of plaster is applied using a wide spatula on the wall or ceiling surface. Plaster should be applied in a thin layer, evenly distributed over the surface.
- Sanding the first layer: once the first layer of plaster is dry, it must be sanded to remove any irregularities and make the surface smooth.
- Application of the second layer of plaster: the second layer of plaster is applied on the wall or ceiling surface once the first layer is dry. The second layer of plaster should be thinner than the first to eliminate any remaining irregularities and defects.
- Sanding the second layer: after the second layer of plaster is dry, it is necessary to repeat the sanding to achieve a perfectly smooth surface.
- Impregnation: once the plaster is dry and the surface is smooth, an impregnation is applied to the walls and ceiling to increase the adhesion of the paint or wallpaper to the surface.
It is important to remember that the quality of the plastering determines the quality of work such as painting and hanging wallpaper.
